1. Get recommendations from people who know the beauty industry.
If you have friends with great skin or know people who work in the beauty industry, take this as an opportunity to ask them for referrals and recommendations to their most trusted skin care specialists. Their great skin should be testament enough to the quality of work and service you can expect from the skin care specialist they recommended.
2. Be informed about the requirements of being a skin care specialist.
With a lot of little facial centers and spas sprouting up, you cannot be too careful about entrusting your skin to just anyone. Ensure that the skin care specialist you are going to see is fully qualified by the standards set the Bureau of Barbering and Cosmetology. Minimum requirements for a skin care specialist are as follows: certificate of completion of a 600-hour skin care course from a Bureau-approved school, passing grade from a Bureau-administered written and practical exam, and a license.
3. Check for certificates of attendance to recent skin care seminars.
Skin care is a fast-evolving industry with new technologies and techniques developed regularly. Any skin care specialist who is serious about his profession will be on the look out for seminars and training workshops for modern skin care.
4. Consider attitude and service in choosing a specialist.
You will be working closely with your skin care specialist in your quest for great skin. Hence, it is important that your skin care specialist has the right attitude and outlook about his or her profession. A good skin care specialist should actively seek out the needs of his or her client and be able to discuss critical options and methods prior to treatment. It is okay to switch to another specialist if you have an uncomfortable working relationship with your specialist.
5. Opt for a skin care specialist that can provide a wide array of services.
Although all skin care specialists have knowledge of different skin care treatments, some choose to specialize in one. Specialization is good but this means that you have to find another specialist for different treatments. Instead, for continuity’s sake, choose a specialist that is skilled in providing different skin care treatments.
Choosing a skin care specialist is not a decision that must be taken lightly. Your skin is the first thing people notice when they look at you so it is important to entrust it to someone capable. Research and do your homework before looking for your own skin care specialist to ensure that you get the best one for your needs and budget.

I like your idea of how you would want to find out about requirements of a skin care specialist before you choose one. It would seem that educating yourself about the field would help you decide who to hire. I’m looking for someone to help me out with my dry skin so I’ll have to find about the requirements first.

Yes Olivia! I have been to several places in which skin care was just fluff. I really believe a skin care specialist should delve into the issues that a client is having. If you are experiencing dry skin, it could be for several reasons. Winter weather, diet, water intake or moisturizers that may need to be more hydrating for your skin type. When really dehydrated I like to use dermaque lipid recovery treatment serum. It really adds a protective moisture barrier to the skin. Also, 4.22 organics safflower moisturizer is lightweight but very hydrating. And of course, drink lots of water!
Thank you for your interest and comments!
